Enchanté (Pleased to Meet You)

In Enchanté (Pleased to Meet You), Wolfe-Alegria reimagines the Deep Space gallery at AIRspace as a storeroom in which discarded homewares transform themselves into fungus-like forms, expressing a kind of camp, subjective interiority. Their ornamented forms recall the mythical fates, a coven of witches, or a troupe of Drag Queens. They also recall the mycorrhizal network, an underground network of fungi which connects individual plants together. In the installation this network functions as a metaphor for material connectivity – a fluffy throw, may have once been a field mushroom, (or a witch).

The installation was also recreated as part of Show Home in Melbourne, a group show in which contemporary works were exhibited in a domestic context.
